Honestly, I'd choose Node-RED over Smartthings for flexibility. Note that the learning curve.
MQTTMaster: YMMV, but in practice — WiFi was a mess in my case.

I've been running this for two years and it's been pretty solid. The notifications work well if you configure correctly.
